Ready for your server: Sounds has versions for Fabric, NeoForge and Forge. Create your world with one of those loaders and a version from the table below. The newest option is NeoForge on Minecraft 26.3.

What Sounds does

It's what it says on the tin. A complete upgrade to Minecraft's SFX with over 170 new sound effects for UIs, items, blocks and more.

Sounds is a mod that adds a variety of new sound effects to the game, whilst improving existing ones that didn't quite fit. It's a game-changer, it makes vanilla feel incomplete in comparison.

Does it go on the server or on players' games?

Sounds is a client-only mod: it doesn't run on the server. Each player installs it in their own Minecraft if they want it. Add it in the panel as "Players only" and it ships inside everyone's modpack.

What other mods it needs

The latest version of Sounds (NeoForge) needs these mods. No need to hunt them down: the panel adds them for you.

How to add Sounds to your server

  1. Open the panel and create a world with a compatible loader and Minecraft version (Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, per the table above), or open one you already have.
  2. In the world's "Mods" section, search for Sounds in the Modrinth catalog. You'll only see what works with your world.
  3. Add it with the "Players only" option, the one the panel suggests for this mod.
  4. Start or restart the server so it installs along with its dependencies.
  5. Ask your friends to download the .mrpack modpack from the panel again.

Frequently asked questions

Which loader and Minecraft version does Sounds work with?

Sounds has versions for Fabric: 1.20 to 26.3 (24 versions); NeoForge: 1.21 to 26.3 (10 versions); Forge: 1.20 and 1.20.1. You pick the loader and version when you create your world; the newest option is NeoForge on Minecraft 26.3. The panel's catalog only shows Sounds if it has a version for your world.

Do players have to install Sounds?

Sounds is a client-only mod: it doesn't run on the server. Each player installs it in their own Minecraft if they want it. Add it in the panel as "Players only" and it ships inside everyone's modpack.

What other mods does Sounds need?

Its latest version (NeoForge) requires YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) and MRU. No need to hunt them down: the panel installs them automatically when you add Sounds, in the version that matches your world.

Is it worth adding Sounds to the server if it's client-only?

Yes, as a convenience. It does nothing on the server, but if you add it as "Players only", it ships inside the .mrpack modpack and everyone gets it without searching. It uses no server resources.
