Bedrock crossplay server: play with Java friends or go native Bedrock

Friends on phone, console or Minecraft for Windows? You've got two ways in: open your Java world to Bedrock players or spin up a native Bedrock server.

Minecraft has two editions that don't talk to each other: Java (PC, the one with mods) and Bedrock (Android, iPhone, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and Minecraft for Windows).

With Picoserver you can bring both groups into the same world or create a server just for Bedrock. Both run in Querétaro, Mexico, and cost exactly the same.

Crossplay or native Bedrock? Decide in 10 seconds

  • Crossplay (Java + Bedrock): your server stays Java and Bedrock players can join too. Perfect if your group mixes PC players with phone or console players, on a vanilla world or one with server-only mods (performance, utilities).
  • Native Bedrock: plain Minecraft Bedrock, no translator in between. Perfect if everyone plays Bedrock and nobody needs mods.

Crossplay: PC, phone and console in the same world

The panel installs two mods on the server: Geyser, which translates between Bedrock and Java, and Floodgate, which lets Bedrock players join with their Xbox account, no Java account needed.

Your Java players don't install anything new: their modpack stays the same.

  1. Your world needs to be Fabric or NeoForge. If it's vanilla, switch it to Fabric in Settings → General. Forge has no Geyser.
  2. In Settings → Access, turn on "Allow Bedrock players (phone, console, Windows)" and save.
  3. Restart the server. On startup, Geyser and Floodgate get installed and port 19132 opens.
  4. Home now shows the Bedrock address with port 19132. Send it to your phone and console friends.

Use a recent Minecraft Java version. Geyser is updated with every new Bedrock release. On older Java versions it may not accept the Bedrock version your friends have. If there's no Geyser for your world's version, the panel lets you know when you save.

What about mods? Vanilla or server-only mods only

Geyser can only translate what regular Minecraft includes. Mods that add content (new blocks, items, mobs or biomes) don't exist on Bedrock.

  • Work great: vanilla worlds and server-only mods, like performance or utility mods.
  • Not allowed with crossplay: content mods. Bedrock players would see replaced or invisible blocks.

If the world has content mods, the panel won't let you turn on crossplay and tells you exactly which mods are in the way. Remove them and you're good to go.

Whitelist and OPs with Bedrock players

On a Java server, Bedrock players show up with a dot before their gamertag: .MyGamertag.

To add them to the whitelist or OPs, type the dot and the gamertag (with _ instead of spaces). The panel looks up their Xbox account to give them the right access.

In-game panel account sign-up is for Java players only.

Native Bedrock server: pure Bedrock, always up to date

When creating your server (or a new world in Worlds), choose Bedrock. It always runs the latest Minecraft Bedrock version and updates itself when you start it, just like the app on your phone.

  • No mods: no loader, mod catalog or modpack. Coming soon: behavior packs.
  • Settings: difficulty, game mode, max players, cheats, seed, whitelist (by gamertag) and OPs.
  • World: upload a Bedrock world (a .mcworld file is a .zip), download a copy or generate a fresh map.
  • Auto shutdown: just like Java, if nobody's online it shuts down on its own and you stop paying.

How to join from phone, console or Windows

You always need the address shown in the panel's Home and port 19132.

Phone (Android or iPhone) and Minecraft for Windows

  1. Open Minecraft and go to Play → Servers.
  2. Scroll down to Add Server. Paste the address in "Server Address" and leave "Port" as 19132.
  3. Save and join. The first time, Minecraft may ask whether you trust the server: accept.

Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch

On consoles, Minecraft doesn't let you add external servers from the menu. But there are two well-known workarounds:

  • A phone app: it announces the server on your network as if it were a local game. It shows up in the Friends tab.
  • Changing the console's DNS: to a service that opens a server list where you type the address and port 19132.

Both are third-party: follow them carefully.

Can't connect? Check this

  • The panel says "Ready to play!".
  • Without a fixed address, the IP changes every time you start the server: copy it again from the panel. With a fixed address it never changes.
  • You're on the same Bedrock version as the server: update Minecraft on your phone or console. With crossplay, make sure the Java world is on a recent version.
  • If there's a whitelist, your gamertag is spelled right (with the dot, on crossplay).

Frequently asked questions

Can Java players and phone or console players play together?

Yes. Create a Java world with Fabric or NeoForge and turn on "Allow Bedrock players (phone, console, Windows)". PC players join with Minecraft Java as usual, and phone, console or Windows players join with Minecraft Bedrock at the same address, port 19132.

Which port do I use for Minecraft Bedrock?

19132, Bedrock's default. In the panel, Home shows the address and port ready to copy. Java players keep using just the address (port 25565).

Does crossplay work with a vanilla or Forge world?

Not directly. Geyser and Floodgate, the mods that translate between Bedrock and Java, only exist for Fabric and NeoForge. If your world is vanilla, switch it to Fabric (it plays the same, no extra mods). If it's Forge, use Fabric or NeoForge instead, or create a native Bedrock server.

Can I use crossplay on a modded server?

Only with server-only mods, like performance or utility mods. Mods that add content (new blocks, items or mobs) aren't allowed with crossplay, because Bedrock can't install Java mods and those players would see replaced or invisible blocks. The panel won't let you turn on crossplay while the world has them, and it tells you which mods they are.

Why do Bedrock players' names start with a dot?

On a Java server, Bedrock players show up with a dot before their gamertag (for example, .MyGamertag). That way they never clash with a Java account that has the same name. To add them to the whitelist or as OP, type the dot and the gamertag, with underscores instead of spaces.

Does the native Bedrock server support mods or add-ons?

Not yet. The native Bedrock server is plain Minecraft Bedrock. Coming soon: behavior packs. Want mods? Use a Java world with Fabric or NeoForge. With crossplay on, only server-side mods (performance, utilities) are allowed.

Does a Bedrock server cost more?

No. Java and Bedrock cost exactly the same: you pay by the hour while the server is on, plus your world storage.
