Unofficial Fork of "Iris", made to work with FML

Performance. Oculus should fully utilize your graphics card when paired with optimization mods like Rubidium. - Mod compatibility. Oculus should make a best effort to be compatible with modded environments. - Backwards compatibility. All existing ShadersMod / OptiFine shader packs should just work on Iris, without any modifications required. - A well-organized codebase. I'd like for working with Iris code to be a…

Does it go on the server or on players' games?

Oculus is a client-only mod: it doesn't run on the server. Each player installs it in their own Minecraft if they want it. Add it in the panel as "Players only" and it ships inside everyone's modpack.

What other mods it needs

The latest version of Oculus (Forge) needs these mods. No need to hunt them down: the panel adds them for you.

How to add Oculus to your server

  1. Open the panel and create a world with a compatible loader and Minecraft version (Forge, per the table above), or open one you already have.
  2. In the world's "Mods" section, search for Oculus in the Modrinth catalog. You'll only see what works with your world.
  3. Add it with the "Players only" option, the one the panel suggests for this mod.
  4. Start or restart the server so it installs along with its dependencies.
  5. Ask your friends to download the .mrpack modpack from the panel again.

Frequently asked questions

Which loader and Minecraft version does Oculus work with?

Oculus has versions for Forge: 1.16.5 to 1.20.1 (8 versions). You pick the loader and version when you create your world; the newest option is Forge on Minecraft 1.19.2. The panel's catalog only shows Oculus if it has a version for your world.

Do players have to install Oculus?

Oculus is a client-only mod: it doesn't run on the server. Each player installs it in their own Minecraft if they want it. Add it in the panel as "Players only" and it ships inside everyone's modpack.

What other mods does Oculus need?

Its latest version (Forge) requires Rubidium. No need to hunt them down: the panel installs them automatically when you add Oculus, in the version that matches your world.

Is it worth adding Oculus to the server if it's client-only?

Yes, as a convenience. It does nothing on the server, but if you add it as "Players only", it ships inside the .mrpack modpack and everyone gets it without searching. It uses no server resources.
